Bangkok: Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (ARIT) is gearing up to manage an anticipated surge in air traffic during the Chinese New Year period, with projections indicating up to 3,000 flights per day.
According to Thai News Agency, Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AeroThai) is implementing strategic air traffic control measures to accommodate the increased flight volume expected between February 17-26, 2026. The forecast suggests nearly 3,000 flights daily, marking an 8.3% rise from the previous year. This uptick in flights, already noticeable since February 10, 2026, underscores the recovery of Thailand's aviation and tourism sectors.
Mr. Surachai Nuphrom, Deputy Managing Director and Acting Managing Director of AeroThai, stated that the average daily flights have reached 2,895, a 7% increase from the same period last year, with some days exceeding the 3,000-flight mark. The trend is expected to continue throughout the Chinese New Year, a significant holiday for Chinese travelers. The total number of flights during this period is projected at 29,096, averaging 2,910 per day. The Thailand-China route leads international flight volumes, averaging 330 flights per day, with notable recovery since January 2026. The Thailand-India route, along with routes between China-Malaysia and Malaysia-China, also shows growth. The busiest Thai airports during the period will be Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, reflecting increased tourist confidence and international travel recovery.
Mr. Surachai added that AeroThai has implemented comprehensive air traffic management measures, including personnel, equipment, and technology readiness, as well as participation in the Slot Allocation committee to ensure capacity alignment. Guidelines for air traffic flow management are in place, with close coordination with relevant agencies. AeroThai is also prepared for emergency situations to manage the increased flight volume efficiently and safely, supporting the growth of Thailand's aviation industry, economy, and tourism.
