AFC Lauds Thailand for Successful Hosting of U-20 Women’s Championship

Bangkok: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has extended a letter of gratitude to the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) for successfully hosting the AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup Thailand 2026. The championship took place from April 1-18, and the AFC expressed its appreciation for the exceptional organization and management of the event.

According to Thai News Agency, the AFC highlighted the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the FAT and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), noting their high level of responsibility in conducting the tournament. The AFC praised the excellent preparations made by the organizing team and the warm hospitality shown to AFC delegates and participating teams. The confederation expressed hope for continued collaboration with the Football Association of Thailand in future events.

The 12th edition of the AFC U-20 Women's Championship saw Japan clinch their 7th title, defeating North Korea 1-0 in the final. This victory secured Japan a spot in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland, along with North Korea, South Korea, and the People's Republic of China. Despite a commendable effort, the Thai team was eliminated in the quarterfinals after a 1-2 loss to South Korea.
