AIS and GC’s Green Initiative Engages Over 50 Universities in Waste Management

Bangkok: AIS and GC have announced the success of the “Green University: Leave, Turn, Let the World Remember Upvel 3” project, which has inspired the new generation to drive a green society and establish a network of over 50 eco-friendly universities nationwide.

According to Thai News Agency, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) has entered its third year of collaboration with AIS to further its environmental and sustainability missions through this project. The initiative aims to reinforce the role of “green universities” in managing electronic waste (E-Waste) and used plastics, while also focusing on creating business value from waste.

This year, the project involves over 50 universities nationwide, providing a platform for students to “upgrade their thinking” with three main missions: a waste collection competition, the creation of “Green Creator: Throw It, Turn It, Let the World Remember” content, and the “Waste to Wealth: Business Model Pitching Contest 2025,” boasting a total prize pool of over 100,000 baht. Ms. Saichol Sappamakudom, Chief Communications and Government Affairs Officer of Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited, noted the project’s success in collecting over 1.6 million pieces of electronic waste and plastic bottles, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 31,132 kilograms, equivalent to planting over 3,297 trees.

Mr. Kitchai Chalermsuksan, Assistant Managing Director of Marketing and Sales, Industrial Platform Group at GC, emphasized the project’s impact, with students collecting over 1.5 million used plastic bottles and 42,822 pieces of electronic waste. This initiative seeks to foster environmental awareness and creativity within universities, extending its influence to the broader community.

The project announced its results across three main missions. In the waste collection competition, Dhurakij Pundit University secured first place, followed by Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna and Burapha University. The TikTok clip contest saw Team Morlam Muen Suen from Khon Kaen University take the top prize, with Team Waste Look from Naresuan University as the runner-up, and Team Byte me from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi winning both the second runner-up and popular vote awards.
