Yala: An alcohol-based explosive device detonated in a second-grade classroom at Ban Tachi School in Yaha District, Yala Province, injuring seven individuals, including the teacher. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM yesterday during a science experiment, leading to injuries among two female teachers and five students.

According to Thai News Agency, the injured were initially transported to Somdej Phra Yuparat Yaha Hospital. However, three students with more severe injuries were later transferred to Yala Central Hospital for advanced treatment. One student sustained injuries to the face, neck, and body, another experienced an injury to the left eye, while the third suffered damage to both eyes.

Two students with minor injuries remained under observation at Somdej Phra Yuparat Yaha Hospital, and the involved teachers sustained minor cuts on their legs and feet. A fourth-grade teacher, who was nearby during the incident, reported hearing a loud noise and witnessing the ensuing chaos, with students displaying burn-like wounds and clothing damage attributed to the alcohol used in the experiment.

Following the explosion, school authorities promptly secured medical assistance and ensured the safety of other students by arranging for their early dismissal. In response to the incident, Mr. Veerapat Bundhrik, Deputy Governor of Yala Province, and Dr. Sompong Palachai, Yala Provincial Education Officer, visited Yala Central Hospital to check on the students' conditions and emphasized the need for a thorough medical evaluation, particularly for the student with eye injuries.

To support the affected students, the Ministry of Education has prepared an emergency fund, and the Yala Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 has released a statement detailing the measures being implemented to assist those impacted by the accident. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
