All bus terminals and Bangkok Railway Station or Hua Lampong were packed with passengers late today as people started to leave the capital for homes in the provinces to celebrate Songkran festival and from family reunions on this Thai tradition New Year.
Anon Luengboriboon, acting governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said that the SRT are ready for the exodus of Songkran revelers.
It increases nine outbound trains and 15 inbound trains as it expects more than 300,000 travelers during the Songkran festival.
The number of passengers is likely to reach the peak of 100,000 people on April 12.
He said he was confident there will be no passengers left stranded.
Meanwhile, the state-run Transport Company which operates inter-provincial bus service, estimated that on April 12, the number of outbound passengers will reach 180,000.
