Ambassador Rasm Supports Thai Government’s Humanitarian Decision Amid US Visa Measures

Bangkok: Ambassador Rasm has affirmed that the Thai government’s decision regarding humanitarian matters was appropriate. The statement came in response to the United States’ implementation of visa measures against Thailand. The measures target Thai government officials linked to the deportation of 40 Uighurs to China.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rass Charnsongkram, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and a former Ambassador, expressed his views on Facebook. He addressed the United States’ decision to impose visa restrictions on current and former Thai officials connected to the Uighur deportation case. Rass highlighted that the public comments were unanimous, particularly focusing on human rights issues and skepticism towards the US stance on the matter.

Rass further shared his personal perspective, suggesting that those who support the US measures may not prioritize human rights principles as much as they claim. He also compared the US’s actions towards Thailand with its treatment of Canada, a close ally, implying that such actions were not unexpected. Rass concluded by reiterating his belief that the Thai government’s decision was the correct humanitarian approach.
