Another Thai Man Dies in Poipet – Sa Kaeo Border Area Remains Calm

Poipet: One more Thai man from Chiang Mai was found dead in Poipet. The situation at the Sa Kaeo border remains calm.

According to Thai News Agency, the Eastern Region Assistance Center for Thais Abroad (IMF) revealed information about another Thai person who died, a Chiang Mai resident. They were notified around 5 p.m. yesterday that Mr. Narong Kam, also known as Don, a resident of Mae Ai, Chiang Mai Province, had died from physical assault, electric shock, and torture. He died at the location of his death in Bua Lai, Poipet, a place where Thai workers were detained, forced into labor, and continually abused.

Soldiers continue to fly drones to survey Sa Kaeo Province. Regarding the Thai-Cambodian border situation at Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo in Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, after Burapha Task Force personnel continued aerial patrols with drones since early morning, the overall situation remains calm with no unusual movements from the Cambodian side.

Local sources indicate that the current calm may be due to a key factor: the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Demarcation Committee (JBC) is in the process of setting up temporary markers at two key locations in the area, Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo. This has prompted Cambodian forces to halt their movements while awaiting the results of the joint working group’s work. However, the Thai side remains distrustful of the situation, particularly the Cambodian military, which has occasionally displayed a strong stance, as well as the risk of Cambodian protesters gathering and exerting pressure in the area at any time.
