Bangkok: In the final stretch of the Bangkok gubernatorial election, Anucha Burapachaisri, the Democrat Party's candidate for governor, is emphasizing the importance of combating corruption. He highlights positive signs of voter support returning to the Democrat Party, while also expressing concern about structural issues in old buildings at the Mo Mi intersection. Abhisit Vejjajiva, the party leader, calls on Bangkok residents to reflect on the past four years, noting that persistent problems remain unresolved.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anucha, candidate number 5, along with party leaders including Mr. Abhisit, Mr. Sakoltee Phatthiyakul, Mr. Ongart Klamphaiboon, Mrs. Radklao Intawong Suwannakiri, and Mr. Mekhin Iamsaad, actively campaigned at several markets in Bangkok. They visited Ying Charoen Market with Mr. Chatchanapong Kaewthong, the Bangkok City Council candidate for Bang Khen district, before moving on to other locations such as Muang Thong Market and Chatuchak 2 Market.
Mr. Anucha shared feedback from his field visits, emphasizing the public's demand for addressing corruption, in addition to chronic issues like flooding, traffic congestion, and sanitation. He stressed the need for transparency, particularly in the buying and selling of positions and solicitation of bribes within Bangkok's operations. This anti-corruption stance is a directive from Mr. Abhisit, urging all candidates to provide clear explanations if any suspicions arise.
Addressing opinion polls, Mr. Anucha mentioned he was not concerned, citing strong public support and encouragement during his campaign visits. He noted that former party supporters and undecided voters are showing renewed interest in the Democrat Party due to its serious policy presentation.
Regarding structural concerns, Mr. Anucha reported on his inspection of an accident site in Samphanthawong district, where a balcony collapse resulted in injuries and a fatality. He stated that officials are assessing the structural integrity of buildings to determine necessary actions.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abhisit urged voters to evaluate Bangkok's management over the past four years, highlighting recurring issues like flooding and building collapses. He emphasized the need for transparency and decisive leadership in investing in infrastructure projects, aiming to improve the quality of life in Bangkok.
Mr. Abhisit also discussed the potential for Bangkok to become an AI Hub, emphasizing the need to address major problems such as illegal businesses, to shape a better future for the city.
