Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has voiced his support for a referendum on the proposed Entertainment Complex Act, emphasizing the need for coalition party unity and public consultation.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who also serves as the Minister of Interior and leads the Bhumjaithai Party, stated that if the Entertainment Complex Act is promoted as a government policy by the Prime Minister and adheres to legal procedures, it should receive backing from the cabinet. However, he highlighted that the process involves several steps, including parliamentary consideration through agendas, debates, committees, and possible amendments, all of which necessitate gathering information and public opinions. Anutin underscored the importance of listening to the people’s voices, suggesting that a referendum could be the best way to gauge public sentiment on this significant economic initiative that promises job creation and increased cash flow.
Anutin further stressed the necessity for all coalition parties to present a unified front in support of the legislation. He warned against any party acting independently, insisting that unity is crucial for advancing the law. He advised that before the matter is brought to parliament, coalition parties must reconcile any differences and agree to back the proposal collectively, highlighting this as a matter of coalition spirit.
