Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, expressed satisfaction with the Thai people's cooperation in conserving diesel fuel as part of efforts to navigate the ongoing energy crisis. He also announced forthcoming economic initiatives under the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" program aimed at stimulating the economy.
According to Thai News Agency, since the beginning of April 2026, there has been a noticeable reduction in diesel consumption, with usage on certain days falling below last year's averages. This trend highlights the public's proactive response to the global energy challenges. Despite these positive developments, the government remains vigilant, particularly concerning the situation in the Middle East, to ensure preparedness for any abrupt changes. On the international front, Anutin highlighted a recent diplomatic mission to Oman by the Deputy Prime Minister, aimed at negotiating the opening of a logistics route in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, further affirming Thailand's solid international standing.
In terms of economic relief, the government is gearing up to introduce the "Thai Helps Thai" project, an enhanced version of the existing co-payment scheme. Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas is tasked with developing this model to ensure its swift implementation. Additional measures include plans to reduce electricity costs for the first 200 units to a maximum of 3 baht and the establishment of special-priced retail outlets nationwide. These outlets will offer high-quality Thai products at competitive prices by cutting out marketing costs, thereby aiming to reduce living expenses and support citizens through the economic downturn.
