Anutin Charnvirakul Inspects Suphan Buri Floodgate, Seeks Return to Office

Suphan buri: Anutin Charnvirakul visited Suphan Buri to inspect the Song Phi Nong floodgate and appealed for an opportunity to return to work, while also inaugurating the Don Chedi Memorial event in honor of King Naresuan the Great.

According to Thai News Agency, the inspection took place at 4:00 PM when Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul arrived to oversee and formally open the 67th Don Chedi Memorial Festival, scheduled for 2026. He was warmly welcomed by Mr. Natthapong Sanguanjit, Governor of Suphan Buri Province; Mr. Udom Prongfah, President of the Suphan Buri Provincial Administrative Organization; senior officials; Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, a Bhumjaithai Party candidate; and other Bhumjaithai Party candidates, including Mr. Praphat Phothisuthon, Mr. Sorachat Sujit, Mr. Nattawut Prasertsri, Mr. Nopadol Matrisri, and Mr. Semerkan Thiangtham.

Mr. Anutin's visit to Song Phi Nong District included a thorough inspection of the Song Phi Nong floodgate. He was greeted by a large number of local residents, to whom he expressed gratitude for their warm welcome and acknowledged the persistent flooding issues in the area. He emphasized that decision-making and budget management are key to addressing these challenges. Mr. Anutin highlighted that if homes are inundated for more than three days, the government compensates each household with 9,000 baht, which he believes may exceed the cost of expanding floodgates and improving waterways.

The Prime Minister conveyed that over the past three years, flood compensation payments have totaled nearly 100 billion baht, yet infrastructure improvements remain insufficient. He addressed the pressure from local MPs and requested a temporary solution, promising transparency upon his return on February 8th. He stated that the continuation of his work depends on public trust and believes that sustainable solutions can be achieved if reinstated.

The Prime Minister questioned the annual expenditure of billions of baht and whether it benefits the country. He criticized the current compensation system and stressed the need for long-term solutions. He urged residents to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming election and to support competent candidates who prioritize public welfare.

During his interview, Mr. Anutin explained his visit coincided with the anniversary of the Battle of Yutthahatthi, and he took the opportunity to assess the flood situation firsthand. He noted that political challenges shouldn't impede projects aimed at resolving these issues and advocated for the use of central government funds if necessary. He reiterated his commitment to addressing these challenges comprehensively if afforded the opportunity to return to office.

In the evening, Mr. Anutin presided over the Don Chedi Memorial opening ceremony, participating in traditional rituals, and engaging with local cultural and commercial activities, including OTOP and Blue Flag shops.
