Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has submitted a comprehensive list of cabinet candidates for background checks. Anutin emphasized that he has included more candidates than necessary and stated firmly that those who do not pass the checks cannot be appointed. He also detailed his selection of Bowornsak Uwanno as Deputy Prime Minister in charge of legal affairs, tasked with preparing the drafting of the constitution. Anutin expressed confidence in his expertise and commitment to finding common ground while maintaining differences. He plans to meet with “Big Lek” and prepare for the GBC meeting, focusing on resolving border issues comprehensively.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed that the list of ministerial candidates has been submitted to relevant agencies for verification, though specific positions remain unspecified. He humorously noted submitting more than one candidate for Justice Minister, highlighting the importance of justice in the selection criteria. Anutin also mentioned discussions with General Nattapol Nakphanit regarding continuity in the Ministry of Defense’s work, emphasizing the need to break down operational limitations for smoother operations. He stressed the importance of promoting economic cooperation with Cambodia and protecting national sovereignty.
Anutin stated he would explore all channels for diplomatic engagement, including direct contact with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, to normalize bilateral relations. He reaffirmed the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the military in these efforts. On the topic of ministerial qualifications, Anutin reiterated that candidates who fail background checks cannot be appointed. He mentioned that even his own name is subject to verification.
Regarding the selection of ministers during the government’s four-month tenure, Anutin emphasized the choice of experienced individuals over political party members, focusing on specialized knowledge and skills. He acknowledged the political nature of government formation and the necessity of addressing related issues promptly. Anutin confirmed Ms. Suphajee Suthamphan as a potential Minister of Commerce, pending qualification review.
Anutin explained his choice of Bowornsak Uwanno for legal affairs due to longstanding respect and Bowornsak’s involvement in constitutional drafting. He clarified that his move to Buriram Province was constitutionally motivated, not due to connections to Khao Kradong.
Anutin dismissed any pressure from the four-month tenure, citing his ability to seek common ground and manage differences. Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Anutin announced Mr. Ekniti Nitithanpraphas as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, enhancing international credibility.
