Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has expressed deep concern for the safety and welfare of individuals residing along the Thai-Myanmar border as recent fighting and stray bullets have intensified hardships in the region. The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior assured the public of his commitment to prevent the ongoing conflict from impacting Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the current situation at a central meeting of the Ministry of Interior, which focused on managing the Thai-Myanmar border area amidst the escalating conflict in Myanmar. During the meeting, he acknowledged the difficulties faced by Thai citizens due to stray bullets crossing into Thai territory and emphasized that all necessary measures, including diplomatic efforts, are in place to ensure public safety. He clarified that the conflict is not an intentional incursion into Thai soil and stressed that Thailand will not tolerate any such actions, urging those involved in the conflict to restrict their activities to within their own borders.
In response to inquiries about the possibility of discussing the establishment of a peace dialogue committee for the southern border provinces during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, Anutin stated that the process must adhere to proper procedures. When questioned about the appointment of a leader for the dialogue committee, Anutin confirmed that a selection had been made but refrained from disclosing the individual's identity, indicating that further details would be available once the meeting concludes.
Anutin also faced questions regarding the potential replacement of the Director of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward (ISOC Region 4 Forward) to prevent the position from being automatically assumed by the Commander of the 4th Army Region. However, he chose not to comment on the matter during the meeting.
