Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has declared an intensive campaign against cybercrime, uniting 15 government networks in a decisive effort to eradicate scammers and make Thailand a safer place. Today, Prime Minister Anutin, also serving as the Minister of Interior, led a significant ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at preventing and suppressing technology-related crimes. The event was attended by key figures including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and Minister of Justice, along with senior executives from the 15 government networks involved.
According to Thai News Agency, the MOU signing ceremony was a coordinated effort involving multiple ministries and organizations such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Royal Thai Police, and the Anti-Money Laundering Office, among others. The collaboration aims to address the pervasive threat of cybercrime by pooling resources and expertise to protect citizens from scammers.
The initiative is seen as a critical step for Thailand, emphasizing the need for a unified approach against online crime. Prime Minister Anutin expressed gratitude towards the agencies involved, highlighting the MOU as a strategic tool designed to combat crime systematically. He emphasized that the government’s support would extend to providing necessary resources, including budget and technology, to ensure both short-term effectiveness and long-term sustainability in making Thailand a secure environment.
The comprehensive MOU outlines five primary areas of focus: stringent law enforcement against both perpetrators and their enablers, creating an integrated system for intelligence sharing, seizing and freezing assets to disrupt financial channels, leveraging advanced technology and AI for fraud detection, and fostering public awareness and participation in crime prevention.
This collaborative effort underscores a national agenda, marking a significant commitment by Thailand’s government to safeguard its citizens and enhance its international reputation by combating cyber threats effectively.
