Anutin Defends Government’s Track Record Amid Criticisms in Parliamentary Session

Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul defended his government’s performance during a parliamentary session, responding to criticisms from members of the opposition. Anutin emphasized the transparency and qualifications of his Cabinet while addressing concerns raised by Dr. Cholanat Srikaew from the Pheu Thai Party and Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut of the Prachachon Party.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin assured parliament that his administration is committed to serving the nation effectively, stating that the ministers were personally selected for their qualifications and are prepared to be scrutinized. He highlighted the government’s plan to dissolve Parliament on January 31, 2026, after a four-month working period, and insisted that no one can manipulate the Prime Minister.

Anutin responded to Dr. Cholanat’s inquiries regarding the government’s capability and performance, affirming that the administration can meet its objectives with speed and efficiency. He underlined that the Cabinet members have extensive experience and are dedicated to the welfare of the nation and its people.

Addressing concerns about transparency, Anutin reassured that all government actions adhere to legal processes and regulations, inviting scrutiny and accountability at every stage. He also countered claims about the lack of skilled individuals within the government, emphasizing the trust and achievements of his Cabinet members.

In response to criticisms about democracy’s future under his government, Anutin argued that his administration would lay a solid foundation for democratic principles, emphasizing respect for the majority and independent decision-making. He also addressed concerns about the interim nature of the government, asserting that the administration aims to address and rectify the damage caused by previous governments within the four-month timeframe.

Anutin also touched upon the 30-baht universal healthcare scheme, claiming it as his policy initiative, and criticized the previous government’s handling of related healthcare policies. He assured that free dialysis will be reinstated within two months, or he would personally oversee the Ministry of Public Health.

The session also saw Dr. Cholnan Srikaew defending his tenure as Minister of Public Health, clarifying that the 30-baht universal healthcare policy was originally implemented by the Pheu Thai Party government. He addressed Anutin’s references to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his teachings, expressing gratitude for the mention but clarifying his role during that administration.

Overall, Anutin maintained that his government is filled with capable individuals committed to the nation’s progress, rejecting claims of inefficiencies and reaffirming the administration’s dedication to transparency and democratic principles.
