Anutin Leads AMLO in Recovering Nearly 40 Billion Baht from Fraudsters

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, led a significant operation with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) that resulted in the seizure of assets from fraudsters valued at nearly 40 billion baht. This initiative also saw the return of over 25 million baht to victims of fraud.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin announced the results of these operations during a press conference, where he emphasized the importance of returning stolen assets to the public rather than simply incarcerating offenders. He stressed that while imprisoning criminals is necessary, the real triumph lies in recovering and returning the defrauded money to the victims.

The press conference was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Minister of Justice Pol. Gen. Ruudhpol Naovarat, Prime Minister's Advisor Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, AMLO Chairman Chatchai Promlert, and AMLO Secretary-General Thepsu Bowornchotidara. Before the conference, a moment of silence was observed in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavadi.

Prime Minister Anutin highlighted the recent success in "Operation Eradicate Drugs," which dismantled the "Nu Chen" network. The current focus, he noted, is on the seizure and confiscation of assets from criminals who have defrauded the public, underscoring the government's commitment to restoring financial justice.

The Prime Minister also reiterated the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies and government bodies in achieving these results. He noted the challenges faced, such as attempts to dismiss cases or reduce charges, but credited strong internal relationships and trust within AMLO for the success of the operations.

Anutin declared that the government will continue to pursue those who disregard the law, emphasizing the need for stringent legal measures to close any loopholes. He assured that the government is prepared to use Cabinet resolutions and emergency decrees to ensure legal rigor. He also warned perpetrators that continued defiance will lead to severe consequences.

During the event, the Prime Minister oversaw the return of money to victims in four major cases, including funds returned to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, totaling over 25 million baht.

Representatives of the victims expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister and AMLO for their relentless efforts in asset recovery, which have significantly alleviated their suffering. They praised the government's commitment to enforcing the law and restoring justice for those affected by financial crimes. Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister inspected the seized assets at the AMLO building.
