Anutin Orders Probe into District Chief’s Neglect of Flood Victims

Bangkok:Anutin Charnvirakul has initiated a disciplinary investigation into the Ban Sang district chief for allegedly neglecting to assist flood victims adequately. Anutin highlighted that if the district chief is found guilty, they should be removed from civil service. He also instructed the Permanent Secretary of the Interior to expedite the distribution of 9,000 baht in relief funds, ensuring that the digital system facilitates instant transactions without delays.

According to Thai News Agency, During a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command, Anutin emphasized the need for immediate action to support flood-affected areas, noting the ongoing challenges in provinces like Prachinburi and Chachoengsao. He acknowledged the efforts of various government officials in managing the flood response and stressed the importance of morale among frontline staff amid persistent rainfall in southern Thailand.

Anutin urged officials to expedite the submission of eligible households for relief funds, with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation already transferring funds to over 10,400 households. He expressed concerns about delays in bank transfers and called for an investigation to address these issues.

The investigation into the Ban Sang district chief, Mr. Setthawut Wongleowut, follows allegations of inadequate response to the flood crisis. Anutin expressed disappointment over Mr. Wongleowut's performance, directing the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration to conduct a thorough examination of the situation. Anutin emphasized the need for accountability within the civil service, stating that serious misconduct would result in dismissal.
