Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has expressed his readiness to explain to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) regarding the Settha Cabinet’s decision to reallocate a budget for a 10,000 baht handout. He emphasized that his personal intentions were honest and insisted that any proposal submitted to the Cabinet undergoes thorough legal scrutiny.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin is preparing for potential legal proceedings should the NACC initiate an investigation into former Prime Minister Settha Thavisin and his Cabinet members. The investigation concerns a proposed budget cut of 35 billion baht intended for the digital wallet project. Anutin stressed the need to clarify his position, stating that he has not reviewed the details yet but maintained that his intentions are sincere. He also highlighted the NACC’s independent discretion in decision-making, indicating that he cannot influence their judgment.
When questioned about the Cabinet’s stance on the budget change, Anutin remarked that as long as decisions are not illegal, unconstitutional, or detrimental to the nation, there tends to be consensus among Cabinet members. He reiterated that all matters presented to the Cabinet are legally compliant and are scrutinized by the Cabinet Secretary. He urged that any uncertainties should be directed to the Council of State, emphasizing the importance of trusting governmental agencies and respecting their autonomy.
