Bangkok: Government support for Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party and prime ministerial candidate, has surged beyond 292 votes after the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party announced its intent to join the coalition government. This political maneuver follows the resignation of Peerapan Salirathavipak from his list MP position, allowing Atthawich Suwannaphakdee to step in and lead the alliance.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, MP for Ubon Ratchathani and spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, is set to formally announce the coalition with the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party at the Parliament building tomorrow at 8:30 AM. The collaboration is bolstered by Mr. Atthawich, who reported to Parliament, signaling a strong likelihood of his party's inclusion in the Anutin 2 government. This move marks a significant shift, as Mr. Peerapan had previously expressed his intention not to support Mr. Anutin.
With the addition of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, the number of political parties planning to back Mr. Anutin as Prime Minister has risen to 293. However, due to the pending certification of the election results for Suphan Buri Constituency 2 by the Election Commission, the current official count of votes remains at 292. The coalition's support is drawn from several parties, including the Bhumjaithai Party with 191 votes, Pheu Thai Party with 74 votes, and smaller parties like the Palang Pracharath Party and Prachachart Party, each contributing five votes. Other supporting parties include the Setthakit Party, Puea Chart Thai Party, Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, and Thai Sang Thai Party, each adding two votes. Additional support comes from new parties such as Ruam Jai Thai Party, Thai Sap Thawee Party, and others, each providing one vote.
