Anutin Signals Coalition Parties to Await Possible Parliamentary Dissolution on December 12th

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party and Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has informed coalition parties to be on alert for potential signals regarding the dissolution of parliament on December 12th. A proposal for a referendum on constitutional amendments will be submitted to the Cabinet, with plans to request a special parliamentary session on December 10th-11th.

According to Thai News Agency, the announcement came following the Bhumjaithai Party’s Extraordinary General Meeting, where Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, Ubon Ratchathani MP and party spokesperson, revealed the election of 11 members to the party’s provincial representative and branch leaders selection committee. This committee includes five members from the executive committee and six from the by-election process, in preparation for the primary vote and upcoming general election.

Anutin emphasized the importance of readiness for December 12th, instructing coalition government members to be prepared for any developments, potentially signaled by himself or Parliament. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Prachachon Party includes a referendum on constitutional amendments, which Anutin plans to bring before the Cabinet. He also intends to request the Speaker of the House to convene an extraordinary parliamentary session on December 10th-11th.

Ms. Supamas Isaraphakdi, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Treasurer of the Bhumjaithai Party, has been appointed to oversee the selection of prospective MP candidates for Bangkok. The party has launched a campaign inviting interested individuals to apply as candidates, aiming to recruit a diverse group, including local politicians, businesspeople, civil servants, and private sector professionals.

Ms. Supamas highlighted the existing pool of candidates for the Bangkok constituency, comprising current aspirants and former MPs, as well as new faces from various professional backgrounds. The selection committee will carefully evaluate candidates who align with the party’s ideology, prioritizing passion for public service and dedication to the country.

Encouraging all eligible individuals over 25 residing in Bangkok to apply, Ms. Supamas stressed that the party welcomes candidates regardless of connections or familial ties, focusing instead on those passionate about working with the Bhumjaithai Party. The party aims to blend experienced political veterans with a new generation eager to contribute to national growth.
