Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has announced the implementation of measures to regulate the opening and closing times of gas stations, set between 10 PM and 5 AM, which will take effect after April 20th. This initiative is aimed at facilitating travel for individuals returning to their hometowns during the Songkran festival. Anutin also highlighted the ongoing efforts to adjust oil refining margins.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who serves as both Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, addressed the need for these measures in the context of fuel conservation to maintain a stable domestic supply. He also mentioned the urgency of appointing a new Center for Monitoring and Managing the Conflict in the Middle East (CMC), as the previous council's term ended with the last cabinet. Discussions on refining margins for oil refineries have been initiated with relevant ministers to address the situation.
The decision to regulate gas station hours is part of a broader strategy to manage fuel consumption amid crises resulting from the Middle East conflict. Anutin expressed confidence that the implementation post-Songkran would minimize disruptions, allowing citizens to enjoy the festival before returning to their daily routines. The government aims to provide convenient travel for families during Songkran, aligning with Anutin's commitment to ease travel restrictions. He also noted that there are established channels to enforce these measures effectively, without the need for additional royal decrees.
In response to inquiries about the opposition party's potential policy debates, Anutin remarked, "It's not the time for Kathin anymore, it's the time for Pha Pa." He refrained from commenting on the People's Party's initiative to form a team called "Rich Beyond Belief" in preparation for any government policy debates.
