Anutin Urges Myanmar to Increase Vigilance Amid Border Tensions

Bangkok:Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand's Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has confirmed that Myanmar has been notified to increase its vigilance against potential fighting along the Thai-Myanmar border to prevent any impact on the lives and property of citizens in both countries.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin stated that the government is employing both military and diplomatic measures in response to the ongoing conflict on the border. He indicated that the Myanmar government has been urged to exercise caution to ensure that the fighting does not affect Thailand.

Anutin further explained that on Saturday, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed their concerns to the Myanmar government. They requested Myanmar to avoid actions that could harm the lives, property, and homes of innocent civilians from both nations. There are also plans to summon Myanmar embassy officials for further discussions on these concerns.

Anutin emphasized Thailand's commitment to defending its sovereignty and territory, highlighting the increased readiness of patrol forces. He instructed military leaders to minimize conflicts and clashes, noting that the current fighting does not involve Thailand or its citizens.

Addressing the issue of refugees fleeing from Myanmar into Thailand, Anutin remarked that it is a humanitarian concern. He mentioned that after the situation stabilizes, a plan will be implemented, and most refugees are expected to return voluntarily, while those attempting to remain will be managed according to legal procedures.

Regarding reports of the Myanmar military threatening to destroy Thai warehouses if goods are supplied to the KNU group, Anutin stated that he had no knowledge of such threats and had not received any verified information.
