Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has acknowledged the arrest of three suspects in the local government exam cheating case and vowed to take decisive action, even if the individuals involved are members of the Bhumjaithai Party. The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior made these remarks following the apprehension of Sergeant Pichit Thangprom, Mr. Win Thanapachrapokin (Dr. Win), and Mr. Sataporn Thanapachrapokin by the Central Investigation Bureau of the Royal Thai Police. Anutin confirmed that the suspects are under investigation and prosecution.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin emphasized the need for a thorough screening process for ministerial staff after it was discovered that one of the suspects had previously been part of a ministerial working team. He stated that appointments to key, deputy, or advisory positions must undergo a more rigorous screening process, with senior cabinet members reviewing all candidates. The Prime Minister asserted that at the time of prior appointments, there were no issues, and decisions were made based on the information available.
Anutin further addressed the case involving Bhumjaithai Party members linked to the recruitment exam fraud scandal, confirming that all involved will face consequences. He stressed that there would be no exceptions, even for key party leaders, and affirmed that legal action would be taken against those implicated, including himself if necessary. He also acknowledged that past accusations against party members have necessitated increased vigilance.
"This is not the place to repay any favors," Anutin stated, emphasizing that ministers and political appointees should not feel indebted due to past favors. He criticized the practice of forming extensive working teams, suggesting that such actions are unnecessary and should not be based on courtesy or obligation.
When questioned about potential backlash affecting his leadership, Anutin expressed concern over the need for ministers to have so many working groups and advisors, suggesting that if they require such extensive support, they might not be fit for their roles.
