Army Area 1 Reports Progress on Mine Clearance in Ban Nong Chan

Burapha task force: The 1st Army Area, through its Burapha Task Force and Task Force 12, has announced progress in its efforts to clear suspected dangerous areas in Ban Nong Chan, Area C. The operation, which started on November 11, 2015, involved the 1st Humanitarian Mine Action Unit in collaboration with the 2nd Engineer Battalion.

According to Thai News Agency, the results of the operation on November 12, 2015, were detailed in a report by the Army Area 1. The report highlighted the daily work accomplished, noting that an area of 1,048 square meters was cleared from a total suspected area of 288,457 square meters. This brings the total cumulative work area to 1,485 square meters, which represents approximately 0.51% of the total area.

The implementation of the operation involved the use of specialized search kits and machinery. A search kit was used to clear an area of 1,485 square meters, while BearCat machinery was employed for weed removal operations. However, no specific area size was attributed to the machinery’s operation in the report.

From the beginning of the operation up to the present, a total of seven anti-personnel mines have been detected. These include five PMN mines, one POMZ-2 mine, and one PMD-6M mine. The operations are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the region by systematically clearing landmines and unexploded ordnances.
