Songkhla: The perpetrator who doused a Siberian Husky named Molly in gasoline and set her on fire has been arrested. The accused, Mr. Charoen, also known as "Yao," reportedly acted out of anger after Molly bit and killed his fighting rooster. He confessed to using a plastic bucket to pour gasoline on the dog before setting her on fire.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyawat Chalermsri, Commander of Provincial Police Region 9, announced the arrest of 56-year-old Mr. Charoen during a press conference at the Songkhla City Police Station. Mr. Charoen admitted to the act, motivated by his anger towards Molly for attacking his rooster in the coop adjacent to his residence.
Following his arrest, police escorted Mr. Charoen to three locations: the coop where Molly allegedly bit the chickens, the spot where gasoline was poured on her, and the location where the dead rooster was discarded. The police seized four pieces of evidence: a plastic bucket with oil, the deceased rooster, flip-flops, and green shorts worn by Mr. Charoen on the night of the incident.
Authorities have charged Mr. Charoen with arson, property damage, and animal cruelty, which are punishable by up to two years in prison, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.
