Arrest Made in Unlisted 40mm Ammunition Supply Case

Bangkok: The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 has confirmed the arrest of an individual involved in the supply of 40mm ammunition, which was not listed in the Royal Thai Army’s inventory.

According to Thai News Agency, ISOC Region 4 reported that the person responsible, Mr. Kisam Wuthangkun, confessed to the charges against him. The authorities traced the timeline of the ammunition shipment to Tak Province, confirming that this batch was not a part of the official Army equipment.

On October 23, 2015, Colonel Ekwarit Chobchuphon, deputy spokesman for ISOC Region 4 Forward Command and head of the Public Relations Center, shared updates on the case involving a 40mm bullet discovered by a private delivery company while sorting a parcel in Bang Klam District, Songkhla Province. This led to an investigation by the Bang Klam Police Station, which seized the bullet during its transit from Narathiwat Province to Mae Sot District, Tak Province.

Mr. Kisam was contacted between July and August 2015 by an acquaintance from social media to procure the ammunition. He arranged the purchase online and later collected the ammunition on October 20, 2015, from a location in Yala Province. Before picking up the ammunition, Mr. Kisam ensured the transfer of the purchase price to a relative’s account.

Upon retrieval, Mr. Kisam returned the bullets to his residence in Narathiwat Province and packaged them for delivery using a private courier service. To conceal his identity, he used false names and addresses and purchased phone numbers online.

On October 22, 2015, military officers detained Mr. Kisam while he was traveling to Nong Chik District, Pattani Province, and took him to Ingkhayutthaborihan Camp for questioning. Subsequently, he was transferred to the 46th Ranger Regiment Task Force for further investigation.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the ammunition batch was not part of the Army’s inventory. Authorities are conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover additional conspirators and the source of the ammunition. The ISOC Region 4 urges public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities, emphasizing the legal repercussions of aiding perpetrators as outlined in Section 189 of the Criminal Code.

The ISOC Region 4 Forward Command appreciates public vigilance and encourages reporting any unusual activities to their hotline, ensuring community safety and adherence to legal procedures.
