Songkhla: Police have filed a request with the Songkhla Provincial Court for arrest warrants against seven individuals involved in the assault on a police officer at a local polling station. Among those implicated are a provincial assemblyman and the son of a prominent Member of Parliament.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a member of the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization, who is also the son of a well-known MP. This individual allegedly instructed six subordinates to physically assault Police Lieutenant Nisathit, assigned to the 43rd Border Patrol Police. The assault occurred while he was on duty at Polling Station 7, Village 2, Tambon Phawong in the Mueang District of Songkhla Province. The attack reportedly stemmed from the officer’s refusal to allow them to take pictures within the polling station premises yesterday afternoon.
Following the incident, investigation officers from the Mueang Songkhla Police Station conducted a thorough inspection of the scene and reenacted the incident. They also interviewed those involved in the attack. Consequently, they sought permission from the Songkhla Provincial Court to issue arrest warrants for all seven suspects, including the Provincial Administrative Organization member. The charges include collusion in a group of three or more to physically assault an officer while on duty.
The Commander of Provincial Police Region 9 has assured that the case will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law, emphasizing that there will be no leniency or fixed outcomes in prosecuting those responsible.
