Asaphol Santraiphop Advocates for Public Participation in Anti-Corruption Efforts

Bangkok: Mr. Asaphol Santraiphop, Member of Parliament for Sisaket Province and Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption and Misconduct, has emphasized the critical role of public participation in combating corruption. Asaphol's recent statement highlights the necessity of a collaborative approach involving Parliament, civil society, and the public to establish a robust oversight system.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Asaphol shared insights from the Committee's study visit and collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Organization (Thailand). He underscored the importance of three key players: Parliament, which oversees and legislates; civil society, which remains vigilant and reports issues; and the public, the most crucial force against corruption. This tripartite cooperation is deemed essential for effective anti-corruption measures.

Mr. Asaphol further articulated the committee's dual focus: expediting the consideration of complaints with adequate information and evidence, ensuring a systematic approach, and promoting public education on reporting mechanisms. This includes leveraging platforms like the ACT Ai for safe and effective citizen participation in monitoring corruption. "I believe that Thailand can truly reduce corruption when the oversight system is strong and citizens participate," he stated, committing to continued cooperation for tangible results.

Looking ahead, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is set to convene next week for a two-day session. On June 17th, 2026, they will review findings from seven subcommittee studies addressing critical issues such as local officials' supervision, state land usage, budget disbursement, land title issuance, and bribery prevention. The following day, they will focus on investigations into the Railway Savings Cooperative and illegal gambling dens in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.
