Surin: Two individuals who assaulted Cambodian soldiers are appearing in court today, following an incident at Ta Muen Thom Temple. The prosecutor has brought the accused, Mr. Sommai and Mr. Pathompong, to the Surin Provincial Court with anticipation of an immediate verdict.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident, which took place on July 13 at Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Surin Province, involved the two men using force against the soldiers without causing physical or mental harm. The offense is punishable by up to one month of imprisonment, a fine not exceeding 10,000 baht, or both. Both Mr. Sommai and Mr. Pathompong have confessed to the charges. The Surin Provincial Court prosecutor is expected to present the case to the court today, with a verdict possibly being delivered immediately.
Mr. Kritsada Lohitdee, also known as Lawyer Nobi, has provided information regarding the fines for both individuals, stating that “Kan Jom Phalang” will take responsibility for payment. Lawyer Nobi emphasized that this case sets a precedent, asserting that any future incidents at Ta Muen Thom Temple must be prosecuted under Thai law, using the case of Uncle Sommai as a model.
Meanwhile, at Prasat Ta Kwai in Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province, Thai tourists have been visiting to show support for the soldiers and explore the site. Thai and Cambodian soldiers are actively working to avoid misunderstandings, particularly concerning a donation box located at the worship area. Officials are coordinating with Cambodian authorities to relocate the donation box to the Cambodian side.
