Aston Villa Triumphs Over BG Pathum United in Rain-Delayed Friendly

Bangkok: Aston Villa secured a 3-1 victory over BG Pathum United during a pre-season friendly match at the True BG Stadium, despite the challenge of two key players sustaining injuries. The match, part of the "Aston Villa Asia Tour Thailand," faced a 45-minute delay due to heavy rain.

According to Thai News Agency, Aston Villa, the reigning Europa League champions, was hosted by BG Pathum United from the Thai League. The game saw Aston Villa manager Unai Emery deploy a formidable lineup featuring new signing Alejandro Garnacho, Victor Lindelof, Emiliano Buendia, Alisson Edwards, and Matty Cash. BG Pathum United, on the other hand, was without their key playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin due to injury.

Villa demonstrated their dominance early in the match, with Emiliano Buendia scoring the opening goal from inside the penalty area in the 12th minute. Alisson Edwards then set up Victor Lindelof with a precise corner kick, resulting in a headed goal that extended Villa's lead to 2-0 by halftime. However, towards the end of the first half, Garnacho was injured following a collision with a BG player, necessitating his substitution.

In the second half, Boubacar Kamara extended Villa's lead to 3-0 with a goal from the edge of the penalty area in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately for Villa, substitute captain John McGinn also sustained an injury during the game. BG Pathum United managed to reduce the deficit when substitute Leon James scored a long-range goal in the 82nd minute, but it wasn't enough to alter the outcome. The match concluded with a 3-1 victory for Aston Villa.

Looking ahead, Aston Villa's next pre-season friendly is scheduled against Bayern Munich in Hong Kong on August 7th.
