Atthaphon Urges EGAT to Expedite Response to Mae Moh Landslide

Lampang: Energy Minister Atthapol Rerkpiboon is monitoring the landslide at the Mae Moh mine dump site in Lampang and has ordered Governor Narin Paowanit of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to send a team to the area to address the problem.

According to Thai News Agency, reporters noted that a landslide occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on November 4th at a landfill site on the western side of the Mae Moh Mine in Village No. 6, Mae Moh Subdistrict, Mae Moh District, Lampang Province. The site, located over 500 meters above sea level, houses the offices of Sahakol Equipment Public Company Limited, the contractor responsible for excavating and transporting soil and coal at the Mae Moh Mine. The landslide is believed to have been triggered by continuous rain over several days, which saturated the soil and led to the collapse.

Mr. Atthapol stated that he is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed the EGAT Governor to dispatch a team to the area immediately. Initial findings indicate there has been no impact on power generation or community development in the region, and no employees were injured in the incident. He also mentioned that local agencies are on the scene to monitor the situation, and the Ministry of Energy, along with the government, are coordinating efforts to resolve the issue.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) confirmed that the landslide at the South West Dump resulted in damage to some office buildings belonging to Sahakol Equipment Public Company Limited. However, there were no injuries or fatalities, and power distribution in the northern region remains unaffected. EGAT Mae Moh and related agencies have secured the area and conducted a thorough inspection.
