Bangkok: Authorities have successfully dismantled a drug trafficking network in southern Thailand, seizing a van carrying 300 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and assets valued at 46 million baht. A gas station on the outskirts of Bangkok was the scene of the raid, where the narcotics were discovered hidden inside a van. This significant operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects.
According to Thai News Agency, the joint operation was conducted by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), the 191 Special Operations Division of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police, and military intelligence units. Following the initial bust, the investigation extended to five locations in Narathiwat province, specifically targeting the districts of Cho Airong, Suai Padi, and Suai Ko-lok. Authorities confiscated various assets including land with buildings, a coin-operated laundry business, vehicles, jewelry, and branded goods, which amounted to 46 million baht.
Pol. Col. Suriya Singhakamol, Secretary-General of the ONCB, noted the importance of these arrests in preventing the narcotics from being smuggled to a third country. The ONCB plans to collaborate with relevant agencies to further investigate, gather evidence, and prosecute all individuals involved, aiming to target even the financiers behind the operation. The investigation will also focus on tracking down assets and all those involved in the drug trafficking network for prosecution.
Pol. Col. Suriya Singhakamol further revealed that those arrested will face charges of jointly selling Category 1 narcotics without permission, for commercial purposes, causing their distribution among the public, and impacting national security or public safety.
