Bangkok: Authorities seized 20,000 bottles of counterfeit allergy medication hidden in 103 crates, destined for the South. Metropolitan Police investigators acted swiftly, uncovering the illicit operation centered around the distribution of fake allergy medication labeled "ALLERGIN SYRUB."
According to Thai News Agency, the investigation was a collaborative effort between Police from Investigation Division 3, Metropolitan Police Bureau, and investigators from Pathumwan Police Station. They inspected a distribution center in Bangkok's Rong Muang area after receiving intelligence about the illegal transport of these counterfeit products.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered a closed-box pickup truck at the distribution point. Inside, they found products in brown bottles with blue labels packed in 103 cardboard boxes, totaling approximately 20,000 bottles. These were ready for shipment to the southern region and were immediately seized for further investigation.
The investigation team traced the distribution route, identifying a large shipment and the delivery driver, Mr. Somkiat. Efforts are underway to locate and prosecute him, while the investigation expands to uncover the source and all parties involved in this operation.
Initial findings revealed that the counterfeit medication was being used in a kratom-based concoction known as 4x100. Authorities are working closely with the actual product owner to verify the authenticity of the seized products and are preparing to take legal action under the Pharmaceutical Act and other relevant laws.
Police uncovered additional information suggesting this transportation operation had been active for about a month, with shipments reaching several southern provinces, including Phuket. Officials highlighted that the seized batch alone was valued at approximately 1.4 million baht, with a selling price of around 70 baht per bottle.
Authorities are urging caution to those using or mixing allergy medication with kratom, as the counterfeit products pose significant risks to consumers. Investigations are being accelerated to apprehend more individuals involved, particularly those at the source and within the distribution network in the southern region.
