Ayutthaya Residents Endure Four Months of Persistent Flooding

Phra nakhon si ayutthaya: Residents of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya have been living under severe flooding for four months now. The 9,000 baht in government compensation is incomparable to the damage. If given a choice, they would prefer not to be flooded.

According to Thai News Agency, although the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province has reduced water discharge downstream to 2,470 cubic meters per second, the water in the Chao Phraya River and the Noi River has still flooded. The area of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya has been flooded for the fourth month. Villagers in 12 districts, 145 sub-districts, 946 villages, and 65,102 households have been affected by the flooding. Village No. 5, Bang Nom Kho Sub-district, Sena District, is another community with fewer than 100 houses along the river. The water has reached the second floor. Single-story houses have had to evacuate to sleep elsewhere.

Ms. Nuanchan, 65, said that if she had a choice, she would rather have the 9,000 baht she received not flooded. She said her household’s property was damaged, exceeding 9,000 baht. She could still earn more money without the flooding.

Meanwhile, most villagers continue to use boats to get in and out of their communities. They all say the flooding is very difficult, with the water level now receding somewhat, but it’s still 3-4 meters high. In some areas along the river, boats are still required.
