Bang klam: The Bang Klam Agricultural Cooperative has launched an innovative initiative aimed at providing a pathway for reintegration and skill development for individuals recovering from drug addiction. Through the CBTx project, the cooperative is offering a supportive environment where former addicts can gain new skills, enabling them to return to the community as contributing members and support their families.

According to Thai News Agency, the project, located in the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center of Bang Klam Agricultural Cooperative in Songkhla Province, is part of a broader effort supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHPF) to address drug problems at the community level. With Bang Klam District recognized as a drug trafficking route, the initiative emphasizes the importance of treatment and relapse prevention through community collaboration. The project focuses on vocational training in agriculture, allowing participants to learn skills like farming, cantaloupe and tomato cultivation, and more, which are crucial for achieving stable employment.

Rehabilitation efforts in the district are ongoing, and those who have regained employment are playing a leadership role, encouraging others to join the treatment program. The initiative highlights the significance of vocational training and community acceptance in preventing relapse and ensuring successful reintegration into society. By creating a supportive network, the cooperative is empowering individuals to overcome challenges and reintegrate with confidence.

Mr. Arkhom Chimplee, manager of Bangklam Agricultural Cooperative Limited, pointed out the cooperative's commitment to addressing the drug issue through opportunity creation. The establishment of a 30-rai agricultural learning center provides a space for skill acquisition in a supportive environment. The center has already seen success with three groups of participants, some of whom have launched careers in agriculture or taken positions within the cooperative itself. The story of "Nong Juk," a former offender who now works at the cooperative, underscores the potential for positive change when support systems are in place.

Mr. Chalee Suwannachatri, manager of the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center, emphasized the project's role in giving individuals a fresh start. The center offers diverse learning stations, equipping participants with skills that can be transformed into home-based businesses. The CBTx project has proven effective, with follow-up showing some participants have successfully overcome addiction. The cooperative provides essential resources, including location, water, and expertise, to aid in rehabilitation.

Sub-Lieutenant Siriwat Suwannano, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangklam Agricultural Cooperative Limited, highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative. The transformation observed in rehabilitated individuals underscores the importance of community involvement in drug rehabilitation.
