Bang Wa School Closed After Fatal Shooting Near School Premises

Phang nga: Bang Wa School, located near the site of a fatal shooting, has been closed as authorities continue to search for the gunman. Minister Narumon ordered the closure of Ban Bang Wa School in Phang Nga province following the incident, emphasizing that safety is the top priority. She warned educational institutions nationwide to strengthen their emergency response plans to prevent copycat incidents.

According to Thai News Agency, Professor Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Education, disclosed that the shooting occurred in Moo 9, Khura Subdistrict, Khura Buri District, Phang Nga Province, leading to a fatality. The incident, which happened near Ban Bang Wa School, has caused panic among local residents, including students, teachers, and parents.

Professor Dr. Narumon mentioned that after receiving the report, she coordinated with the school's director to temporarily suspend classes to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and educational personnel, as the shooter has not been apprehended. She indicated that the school might resume classes on Monday, February 23, 2026, provided the situation stabilizes and security is assured in the area. Otherwise, additional safety measures will be considered.

She also encouraged schools nationwide to heighten security vigilance, particularly in monitoring behaviors that might indicate attempts to mimic such incidents. This is crucial to preventing further tragedies like the one in Songkhla province. Consequently, she requested all schools to review their emergency plans, inspect security measures, engage with parents, and monitor students' mental health for their safety.
