Bangkok Administration Enforces Strict Sound Control at S2O Concert

Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is rigorously monitoring the sound levels at the S2O Songkran Music Festival 2026 on Thien Ruammit Road, Huai Khwang District, ensuring compliance with strict measures to minimize noise impact on local residents.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thaiwut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA, announced that the administration has been proactive in addressing noise complaints from the festival. Collaborating with the Huai Khwang District Director, the BMA has implemented immediate inspections and stringent control measures, particularly focusing on the surrounding condominium areas affected by the concert noise.

The BMA has been collecting data on noise levels over the past two days and has engaged in close discussions with both event organizers and affected residents. The organizers have shown cooperation in reducing noise levels, with recent measurements indicating ambient noise at 48-49 decibels and concert noise at 60-61 decibels, which remain within permissible limits. Officials are stationed at multiple locations, including nearby condominiums, to conduct real-time monitoring.

The BMA has set guidelines stipulating that residential noise should not exceed 70 decibels, with allowable increases capped at 10 decibels above normal levels to protect residents' quality of life. The sound situation is evaluated hourly, and organizers will be directed to lower volume if limits are breached or disturbances occur. A collaborative effort involving district offices, event organizers, and resident representatives aims to resolve any issues arising from the concert. Measures include adjusting speaker directions, lowering volume during specific periods, and ongoing impact monitoring. All actions are legally compliant, balancing event activities with residents' well-being.

Mr. Thaiwut emphasized BMA's dedication to fostering economic activities while safeguarding residents' rights. The current measures will persist until the festival concludes to ensure equitable treatment for all stakeholders. Should any infractions arise, BMA is prepared to invoke its authority under the Public Health Act B.E. 2535 (1992) to pursue legal action.
