Bangkok Authorities Utilize High-Speed Pipes to Mitigate Flooding

Bangkok:The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has implemented "high-speed pipes" to manage water diversion from the Rom Klao housing estate in Lat Krabang, aiming to improve recovery efforts in the city's eastern areas.

According to Thai News Agency, Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt reported that recent rainfall, primarily affecting Thonburi, measured about 90 millimeters, while flood-impacted areas received around 30 millimeters, not significantly worsening the situation. The overall flood conditions have improved, with major roads becoming accessible, though some side streets and community areas still face minor flooding.

To alleviate the situation in the Rom Klao community, BMA has installed water pumps and high-speed pipes to expedite drainage into Khlong Nueng and subsequently Khlong Prawet Buriram. Dikes are being constructed to prevent backflow and enhance pumping efficiency.

In Saphan Sung district, improvements have been noticed on Ramkhamhaeng Road and surrounding areas, although Rat Phatthana Road still experiences standing water. BMA is working to enhance drainage capacities and restore normalcy swiftly.

The Khlong Chan housing estate in Bang Kapi district has also benefited from high-speed pipes, with water levels receding. On Nawamin Road, BMA's efforts to divert water into Khlong Saen Saep have led to significant improvements.

Governor Chatchart emphasized the urgency of draining water from Khlong Prawet Buriram canal to accommodate inflows from Lat Krabang and eastern Bangkok. This includes accelerating drainage from the Rom Klao community and restoring normal conditions in Saphan Sung and other affected areas.

BMA has increased water pump installations in Sahakorn Village and continues to deploy resources to address flooding. Residents needing assistance can contact the BMA hotline or Line account for prompt support.

The BMA appreciates the cooperation of government agencies, military, private sector, and residents who have contributed to the ongoing drainage efforts and public assistance.
