Bangkok Ends Search for Missing Persons in State Audit Office Building Collapse

Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has officially concluded the search for missing persons under the rubble of the State Audit Office building. The announcement was made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thawida Kamolvech, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, at the Joint Command Center in Bang Sue Police Station, marking the end of a significant rescue operation.

According to Thai News Agency, the authorities decided to lower the pile of cement debris from the building adjacent to the Central Juvenile and Family Court from 9 meters to 6 meters to ensure safety and facilitate easier searches for any remaining trapped individuals. The search operation, which commenced following the collapse of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) building, involved various teams, including a K9 dog team that conducted inspections to ensure no human remains were left behind.

As of today, the total number of victims reported stands at 109, with 89 deceased, 9 injured, and 4 accounted for as not being at the scene. Currently, 7 individuals remain missing, but it is anticipated that their remains are among the 296 human remains already found at the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine.

To mitigate further risks, the debris pile was reduced in height as agreed in a meeting to facilitate any additional searches needed. Tomorrow, an alms-giving and chanting ceremony will be conducted for the missing persons, featuring 109 monks from the Kammatthan sect, with Somdej Phra Maha Thirachan presiding over the ceremony. This event aims to bring peace and good fortune to those affected by the disaster.
