Bangkok Flower Market Raid Leads to Arrest of Foreign Workers for Illegal Trade

Bangkok: The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Bangkok conducted a raid on the Pak Khlong Mai flower market in Taling Chan, resulting in the arrest of nine foreigners involved in illegal flower trading and working beyond the scope of their permits.

According to Thai News Agency, officials from ISOC Region 1, specifically the ISOC Bangkok office, collaborated with agencies such as the Central Employment Registration and Job Seeker Protection Division and the Bangkok Metropolitan Employment Office Area 7. The operation was initiated following a complaint received via the 1374 hotline about illegal foreign workers selling goods in the market.

The inspection focused on the Pak Khlong Talat New Flower Market in the Bang Phrom Subdistrict of Taling Chan District, Bangkok. The complaint alleged the presence of foreign workers illegally selling goods in the area. During the operation, authorities discovered nine foreign workers employed at the market: one Cambodian and eight Myanmar nationals, comprising two men and six women. Though all possessed valid work permits, they were found working in occupations prohibited for foreign workers.

The authorities detained the workers and charged them under Section 8, punishable under Section 101 of the Foreign Workers Management Act B.E. 2560 (2017) and its amendments, for "being foreigners working beyond their permitted hours."

The offenders have been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. This raid is part of an ongoing intensified crackdown on illegal labor activities within the Bangkok area.
