Bangkok: Mr. Chatchart Sittiphan, Governor of Bangkok, inspected the Phra Khanong Canal following reports from residents about concrete debris being dumped into the waterway. He expressed gratitude to the public for their vigilance and stated that the dumping of construction materials into canals is unacceptable due to its impact on drainage and the environment. Proper disposal of construction waste is necessary.

According to Thai News Agency, a site visit identified two ongoing construction projects in the area: the Phra Khanong pumping station improvement project and the construction of a walkway along the Phra Khanong canal. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is set to expedite investigations to pinpoint which project is responsible for the debris and to ensure accountability.

Governor Chatchart emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility among construction projects, stating, "If concrete was actually poured into the water, full legal action must be taken against both the contractor and those involved." He also instructed the Drainage Department and district offices to enforce stricter regulations.

The Phra Khanong Canal is essential for drainage in Bangkok, linking to several other canals and eventually draining into the Chao Phraya River. Ensuring its capacity is crucial for flood prevention in the city.

Residents are encouraged to report instances of garbage or construction material dumping into canals to the BMA via Traffy Fondue or the hotline at 1555 for investigation and action.
