Bangkok Governor Orders Immediate Road Repairs After Collapse

Bangkok: Governor Chatchart Sittipunt, accompanied by Deputy Governor Wissanu Trapsompol, conducted an inspection of the road collapse incident that occurred on Charansanitwong Road, near the entrance to Soi Charansanitwong 28/6, close to the Fai Chai intersection underpass in the Bangkok Noi district. The collapse happened at a construction site where a siphon pipe, part of the drainage system connected to the Wat Thong canal, is being installed. The incident was triggered when a truck driving over the area caused the road surface to give way around 2 PM.

According to Thai News Agency, initial assessments by officials led to the blockage of water flow and a survey of the cavity formed by the collapse. The examination revealed that the cavity was not extensive, and there was no further subsidence detected. Additionally, nearby residences were inspected, and no damage or subsidence was observed.

Governor Chatchart outlined the repair strategy, indicating that the damaged road surface will be removed, the cavity filled, and a new road surface installed. He assured that the repair work is expected to conclude tonight, allowing for traffic to resume normally by tomorrow.

In light of the ongoing repairs, traffic adjustments have been made. Travelers from Pinklao Bridge are advised that left or right turns onto the new Phran Nok Road are temporarily restricted. Instead, drivers should use the Fai Chai Intersection tunnel to proceed towards Tha Phra. Those needing access to the new Phran Nok Road or destinations such as Siriraj Hospital and Phutthamonthon Sai 4 should make a U-turn at Soi Charansanitwong 22. Governor Chatchart urged the public to avoid the affected route to minimize traffic congestion.
