Bangkok Initiative Encourages Public Participation in Sandalwood Flower Crafting

Bangkok:The Office of the Prime Minister and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration are inviting the public to participate in an event titled "Making Sandalwood Flowers From the Hearts of Thai People to the Mother of the Nation." This initiative aims to engage citizens in crafting sandalwood flowers as a tribute and expression of grief.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, and Mr. Thaiwut Khankaew, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, have emphasized the significance of this event. The activity is designed to involve a wide range of participants, including volunteers and instructors from ten Bangkok vocational training schools, to demonstrate the art of making sandalwood flowers.

The event is scheduled to take place from October 22-24, 2026, at the Sports Complex 2, Bangkok Thai-Japanese Youth Center in Din Daeng, where it aims to gather 1,000 participants. The objective is to produce 3,000,000 sandalwood flowers by November 30, 2026, utilizing local natural materials and promoting craft skills.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has also created video tutorials for the public to learn how to make ten different types of funeral flowers. These tutorials are accessible through the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Public Relations Office website, ensuring wider participation.

Workshops and training sessions are being held at various locations, including vocational training schools and centers across Bangkok, to facilitate public involvement. The crafted flowers will be placed in 93 designated flower-laying pavilions as a symbol of unity and respect.

The initiative underscores the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's commitment to fostering public engagement and providing a platform for all sectors to express their loyalty and gratitude through meaningful handicrafts.
