Bangkok Launches Intensive Cleanup After Floods

Bangkok:An extensive "Big Cleaning" operation is underway in Bangkok as floodwaters have receded, aiming to clear debris and large trash items throughout the city. The operation also focuses on removing vehicles obstructing traffic to restore normalcy.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Governor Pornprom Wikitseth has been overseeing the cleanup efforts along Phetchaburi Road and other affected areas, such as Wat Mai Chong Lom School in Huai Khwang District and the Keha Tha Sai Community in Lak Si District. The initiative includes both immediate waste management and longer-term strategies to assist communities impacted by the floods.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has divided the cleanup into two phases areas still experiencing flooding and those where water has receded. In flooded areas, district offices will coordinate with the central government for support, while in dry areas, residents are encouraged to dispose of large damaged items. The BMA is expediting the establishment of collection points to minimize disruption.

Approximately 1,400 households in the Tha Sai housing community have been affected, accumulating around 100 cubic meters of garbage. The BMA is deploying resources to manage this waste, assisted by the Environmental Department and other agencies. A "district-to-district pairing" approach is being used to allocate additional support from less affected districts.

Deputy Governor Pornprom has urged the public to bring flood-related debris to designated collection points for efficient removal. The BMA typically provides free collection of large waste at scheduled times but has mobilized extra resources for this special flood situation. Large waste disposal points will be set up in all 50 districts for public convenience.

Efforts are also being made to clear vehicles blocking traffic. The BMA has moved over 1,000 vehicles and is prioritizing areas with significant obstructions, especially on Phetchaburi Road. Vehicle owners are requested to relocate their cars to facilitate traffic flow.

Mr. Pornprom emphasized that the central government will continue to support the cleanup, ensuring all affected areas return to normal promptly. He encouraged vehicle owners who cannot locate their cars after relocation to contact district offices for assistance.
