Bangkok Man Accused of Slashing Woman’s Arm Remanded in Custody

Bangkok: "Film," the man who slashed a Vietnamese woman's arm, has been remanded in custody. He claims he was "mentally pressured" and heard voices in his ear, and denies hating overweight people. Police oppose bail fearing he will repeat the crime.

According to Thai News Agency, this afternoon, investigators from Thung Maha Mek Police Station brought Mr. Atsana, or "Film," 30, the suspect who allegedly slashed a Vietnamese woman's arm with a utility knife, causing injury requiring 14 stitches, to the Bangkok South Criminal Court for remand. He has been charged with "assaulting another person causing physical or mental harm." Investigators will oppose bail due to concerns that the suspect may repeat the offense and for the safety of the public.

Before being taken into custody, reporters attempted to question Mr. Esana, or "Film," about his motive for the crime. The suspect spoke incoherently and ramblingly, stating that he didn't have a prejudice against overweight people and that he did it because he was "mentally pressured by people whispering things in his ear." He admitted to never using drugs and weighed 140 kg. He also claimed to have been assaulted by a group of teenagers in the Sai Mai area, which caused him significant psychological distress.

When reporters asked if he wanted to apologize to the victim and how he viewed the incident's impact on Thailand's image, the suspect simply replied, "There's nothing to say because I've already spoken to the victim." Police then escorted him into a police vehicle to be taken to the Bangkok South Criminal Court for a remand hearing. Investigators opposed bail, fearing he might commit similar offenses again and citing public safety concerns.
