Bangkok Mobilizes Relief Efforts for Flood-Affected Areas

Bangkok:Relief efforts in Bangkok have intensified, with the city aiming to pack and distribute between 50,000 to 60,000 relief bags daily to flood-affected areas. Over 300 personnel and volunteers have been mobilized to support this operation.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Shanon Wangsaengboon, visited the Thai-Japanese Youth Center's Sports Complex 2 in Din Daeng, where the relief bag packing is taking place. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) initiated the packing efforts on September 26, 2026, at Wichuthit School, Din Daeng District Office. However, as demand increased, operations were expanded to the larger Sports Complex 2 to accommodate more production.

The BMA's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation spearheads the procurement and management of these relief packages. The goal is to meet the current need for approximately 100,000 relief packages. As of now, 18,500 packages have been packed, with a target to reach 50,000-60,000 packages today. The Deputy Governor emphasized prioritizing deliveries to the most affected areas, such as Lat Krabang, Nong Chok, Bang Kapi, Khlong Sam Wa, and Khan Na Yao.

To enhance efficiency, the BMA has streamlined the packing process into a production line with 26 tables, each tasked with producing about 2,500 bags daily. This reorganization, along with support from several departments and agencies, aims to reduce transportation time and ensure prompt delivery. The distribution strategy adapts to local conditions, using boats or high-clearance vehicles where necessary.

The relief bags, filled with essentials like rice, canned fish, crackers, tissue paper, and drinking water, are funded by the BMA's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation budget. Meanwhile, donated items continue to be processed at the original Wichuthit School location.

Bangkok aims to complete the packing operations at the Sports Complex 2 by the following day, expediting the process to deliver aid swiftly. The Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to all supporting agencies and urged residents to report incidents or request assistance via Traffy Fondue or by calling 1555.
