Bangkok Port Launches Campaign to Secure Cargo Containers During Songkran

Bangkok: Bangkok Port intensifies efforts to promote secure locking of cargo containers to reduce the risk of accidents during Songkran, emphasizing safe driving and efficient energy use.

According to Thai News Agency, the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) organized the “Safe Driving Campaign: Securely Lock Containers, Safe on Every Route” to raise awareness of safety among truck drivers. The campaign emphasized the importance of securely locking cargo containers and driving cautiously, while also promoting energy conservation and adherence to traffic laws. This initiative is in preparation for the high volume of travel during the Songkran festival (April 11-17) and aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities. The event was chaired by Acting Director of PAT, Lieutenant Colonel Rattakorn Khiaopaisan, Deputy Director of PAT for Finance and Corporate Strategy, and attended by Mr. Thamsin Sribangpleenoi, Deputy Director of Bangkok Port, along with other PAT executives and staff, at Bangkok Port.

Sub-Lieutenant Rattakorn stated that the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) prioritizes the safety of road users during the Songkran festival, a period of high travel volume due to tourism and returning to hometowns. The campaign aims to raise awareness and promote safety among truck drivers entering and exiting the Bangkok Port customs area. Emphasis is placed on checking the security of cargo containers, such as ensuring locks and securing containers throughout the journey, coupled with cautious driving both while working within the port and on general roads. Drivers are also urged to plan their trips and check their vehicle conditions to minimize energy consumption during travel and arrive at their destination safely.

The event included exhibition booths providing information on safe driving, such as traffic laws, speed limits, campaigns to reduce air pollution from black smoke, the e-Gate system for entering and exiting Bangkok Port, and the locking of cargo containers on trucks. Souvenirs were also distributed to cargo drivers and Bangkok Port users. This event was a collaborative effort involving executives and employees of the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), as well as representatives from related agencies, transportation and logistics associations and federations, shipping companies, port users, representatives from communities surrounding Bangkok Port, and the media.

Simultaneously, the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has prepared a plan to facilitate and ensure the safety of public travel during the Songkran festival in 2026, under the policy of the Ministry of Transport. This aims to reduce the risk of accidents and loss of life and property, while building confidence among users and the public sharing the routes. This aligns with PAT’s operational guidelines on its 75th anniversary, which prioritizes public safety alongside social and community responsibility.
