Bangkok:Concerns have been raised over the ongoing flooding issues in Bangkok, particularly in the Nong Chok district, where residents are dealing with stagnant, foul-smelling floodwaters. Dr. Kardee Leowpairoj, a Member of Parliament from the Democrat Party, highlighted these issues during a House of Representatives meeting, emphasizing the anxiety among Bangkok residents due to persistent rain.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kardee received a complaint from Associate Professor Dr. Kanungnit Sribua-iam of Chulalongkorn University, representing Royal Park Ville Village residents. This area has been experiencing over a week of flooding, leading to concerns about potential disease outbreaks due to the stagnant water becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The situation is exacerbated by the village's lower elevation compared to newer communities, causing prolonged water stagnation. Despite efforts by villagers to manage the situation, including purchasing a water pump themselves, assistance from local authorities remains inadequate.
Dr. Kardee called for urgent action from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and related departments to address the underlying water management issues. He also stressed the importance of post-flood recovery efforts, urging the government to offer low-interest loans to help small business owners replace essential equipment.
Moreover, Dr. Kardee recommended simplifying the identity verification process for disaster relief, referencing a proposal made by Rayong MP, Mr. Pasin Pitutecha, to reduce bureaucratic burdens on affected residents.
