Bangkok: Bangkok is set to host a grand Songkran festival in 2025, with festivities scheduled at 196 locations throughout the city, tailored for both religious and leisure activities. Highlights of the festival include events at Lan Khon Muang and Khao San Road, with safety measures in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sanon Wangsangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, announced the festival’s organization and invited the public to participate in the diverse Songkran activities. The festival will feature zones categorized as slightly wet and very wet, with a focus on public safety and proper water play measures, known as the 5 P measures: no large water guns, no alcohol, no nudity, no powder, and water conservation.
Deputy Governor Sanon highlighted that the 196 event locations will offer religious ceremonies, auspicious activities, and entertainment. Tourists and residents can choose from cultural and fun Songkran events, spreading out the crowd and allowing for a more enjoyable experience. Key tourist highlights include the Lan Khon Muang, Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, and various celebrations at Khao San Road, Silom Road, and more.
The festival will feature ‘Cultural Songkran’ events, which focus on traditional and auspicious activities, and ‘Fun Songkran’ events emphasizing entertainment. At Lan Khon Muang, activities from April 12-14, 2025, will include blessing and chanting ceremonies, merit-making, and Thai cultural performances. Additionally, a special ceremony will be held at Sanam Luang with eight floats, an EDM stage, and a giant water tank.
The Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), will take place at Sanam Luang from April 11-15, featuring parades, temple festivals, and water play zones. Other significant events include the ‘Songkran at My Home’ festival, Water Festival 2025, and various activities at Central World Shopping Center.
Safety measures are a priority, with a central command center established to coordinate efforts among the public and private sectors. The use of AI technology with CCTV cameras will enhance safety in areas like Khao San Road, with systems for license plate reading, face recognition, and crowd density analysis.
