Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party takes strong action, filing a lawsuit against Sondhi Limthongkul for defamation and defamation by publication, alleging malicious intent and distortion of facts causing damage to the party.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Supachai Jaisamut, a party-list MP and chairman of the Bhumjaithai Party's legal working group, revealed that the Bhumjaithai Party, as the plaintiff, has appointed Ms. Traisuri Traisaranakul as its representative to file a lawsuit against Mr. Sondhi Limthongkul in the Criminal Court, case number A.1639/2569. The lawsuit stems from an incident on May 6, 2026, sometime after midnight, when a video was disseminated on Facebook under the name "Talking About Everything with Sondhi," containing defamatory statements and defamation by publication. This has caused damage to the Bhumjaithai Party's reputation, subjecting it to contempt and hatred.
The video clip contains subtitles accusing the Bhumjaithai Party of "selling out the nation," with statements that the land bridge project represents national corruption, alleging that the party is the mastermind behind this act. The clip claims that the land bridge and the law proposed by the party are "laws that sell out the nation," arguing that land taxes have been exempted for hundreds of years in advance, necessitating a law to grant land leases to foreigners for 75 years. Furthermore, it alleges that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is involved in selling out the nation.
The emergence of this news has led the general public who watched the clip or read the text to believe that Mr. Sondhi's statements implied the Bhumjaithai Party was acting for personal gain and the benefit of politicians, which the party claims is entirely false. Currently, the Land Bridge project is in the feasibility study phase, with a thorough examination of its advantages and disadvantages. Construction and investment have not yet begun, a fact Mr. Sondhi is well aware of. Instead, he chose to slander and attack without knowing the full context, thus failing to offer fair criticism. This situation has resulted in damage and an erosion of public trust in the Bhumjaithai Party.
